Experimental Intaglio Printmaking with Chine Colle: Two Day Weekend Course 2nd & 3rd August
Experimental Intaglio Printmaking with Chine Colle: Two Day Weekend Course 2nd & 3rd August
Come and explore experimental Intaglio printmaking techniques in a beautiful studio (with a secret garden..) in historic Lewes. No experience needed, small group sizes, and all materials provided.
DAY ONE: Design and prepare a variety of card collagraph and/or drypoint plates using plexiglass, mountboard or Tetrapak. You will have the opportunity to build depth using carborundum and add highlights with varnish. You will also make your own Chine Colle papers with light fast watercolour/inks, in preparation for day two.
DAY TWO: Print a series of prints (up to A3 size) using your prepared printing plates and a Rollaco etching press. Explore different inking techniques and develop ideas with the addition of Chine Colle.
WHERE: Paddock Art Studio, Paddock Lane, Lewes, BN7 1TW
WHEN: Saturday 2nd August and Sunday 3rd August 10am-4pm each day (with 45 minute lunch break)
All materials will be provided, including all paper, non-toxic AKUA soy based printmaking inks, plates (mountboard, carborundum, tetrapak, drypoint acrylic), blotting paper, chine colle materials, use of a Rollaco etching press, gloves, specialist tools, and tea/coffee/biscuits/fruit.
Visual resources are provided for every class including printmaking examples, reference images, and some of my favourite books, although there is no ‘theme’ as such so you are welcome to explore whatever subject you choose.
You are welcome to bring materials to enrich and personalise your work: this might include books/magazines, photographs, sketches, or other images you like. You may also like to bring the following: delicate (thin) papers for Chine Colle (e.g. tissue paper, Japanese paper, mulberry paper), and washed clean and dry Tetrapak cartons.
I recommend that you bring an apron or old shirt to protect your clothes. Please bring your own lunch to enjoy in the studio or garden, weather permitting!
The studio is located at the top of the stairs on the right - there is a stair lift available if required. If you have any accessibility requests please let me know in advance. The studio is well ventilated before and after every session and there will be disposable gloves and hand sanitisier. There are 5 car parking spaces outside the studio that are free and for everyone’s use, on a first come first served basis. Please note however that the access road is narrow and one way, so if you have a large vehicle you may find it easier to find alternative parking. County Hall car park (5 mins away) is £1.50 on Saturdays and free on Sundays. The train station is 15 minutes walk away, and the nearest bus stop is 5 minutes away on Lewes high street.
I will be in touch via email a couple of days before the course starts just to confirm details. If you have any questions or would like to see additional examples of the type of work you could produce then please get in touch by emailing mayeverett@gmail.com as I am always happy to advise.
CANCELLATION POLICY:
If you are unable to attend due to illness or any unforeseen circumstances then please let me know via email as soon as possible. If viable, I will offer you an alternative date for the same or a similar class later in the year. If a suitable alternative cannot be agreed then you also have the option for a refund minus 20% of the full cost as this contribution goes towards my studio hire and material costs, which will already have been purchased. In the unlikely event that I have to cancel, you will receive a full refund.
